In Memory

Allen B. Bush

Allen B. Bush

From Rob Chase:

I heard through my sister and Allen's brother Rob, that Allen Bush died three days ago from complications associated with pneumonia. Although we didn't stay in touch after high school, Allen was part of the group of kids on Northampton Drive who used to play together in the street, and whose family homes seemed like extensions of our own. He will be missed by all those who knew him.

I remember sharing a class or two with Allen at Paly. By his conversation and questions, I always recall him as  level-headed, honest, and open to discussion.

Allen went to Garland with me and was one of my classmates in Millie Lusardi's 5th grade class.  He participated in the memory booklet that we put together for her in 2010.  We corresponded several times that year and he was warm and gracious -- just as he was in elementary school.  A truly nice guy!  He will be missed.

As a fellow-Lusardian, I fully second Susan's observations.  Allen was an unfailingly kind friend, whom I'm sorry to hear has left us.

Growing up, the Bushes lived right behind our family (over the back fence) -- we on Greenwich, they on Northampton.  Their house is still in the family.   Allen's mother, Phoebe, continued to live there until she passed away a couple of years ago in her mid-90s.  I believe that Rob Bush is still there.  And, with Jan, I'm once again on the other side of the fence.

Allen was a neighborhood pal while were at Garland: scouts, sleepovers, refrigerator raids, etc. He and his brother Rob had the ultimate electric train layout. We drifted apart at Jordan, as friendship circles widened geograhically. Allen was always a friendly face in the halls through high school. We spent some time catching up at the 20th reunion. He was living in suburban Portland at the time, I believe, and practicing law. He still had a big smile for everyone.

So very sad to hear about Allen’s passing.  Besides being another Garland/Lusardi alum, our families enjoyed several years of weeks together at Stanford Sierra Camp at Fallen Leaf Lake.  A truly nice guy.  His mom died  in 2019.  My heart is with Allen’s brother Rob, sister Sue, and his wife Jo, and their families.  Rest In peace, dear Allen.

This is terrible news.  Allen was a good friend in Jordan and Paly, with whom I sadly lost touch as with so many when we went off to college.  He was a fellow Boy Scout and happy camper.  I remember his shy smile, his constant kindness, his friendly and gentle nature, and quiet but jovial voice.  He was a good soul, and  am sorry we drifted apart.  I've recently reconnected with his older brother Rob, who has become a spiritual teacher, and I send him my deepest sympathy.  I know in his healing wisdom he will bridge this loss to a place of peace and love, where we are One.
