Palo Alto, CA

Randy Lee Hunter, a lifelong resident of Palo Alto, died on December 14, 2021 at the age of 69.

Randy grew up on Emerson St. in old Palo Alto with his parents Ray and Berniece, and his older brother Jan. Randy attended Addison Elementary School, Jordan Middle School, and Palo Alto High School (class of 1970). He also attended De Anza College and Fresno State University. He worked for many years at the Hewlett-Packard Co. prior to his retirement.

Randy enjoyed “the great outdoors” including the California Gold Country, fishing, prospecting, and gold panning. Randy was a “mechanic extraordinaire” who could build anything or fix anything. From carpentry to auto mechanics to computers, Randy had “the knack”. He lovingly referred to himself as "the Jack of all trades and the master of none".

Randy is survived by his niece Stacey Mette, his nephew Ray Hunter, and their families. Randy will be remembered by all who knew him as a warm, kind, and gentle soul. He lived a good life full of friends, family, fun, hard work, and love.

UPDATE:

There will be a burial service for Randy Hunter on Friday January 28, 11:30am at Alta Mesa Memorial Park in Palo Alto.

I remember Randy as a super kind person. When I entered Addison Elementary, he was a stand out in the welcoming arena. I was so grateful. I was in the midst of family craziness and his kindness was so necessary. I will never forget his shy smile.

Randy and his family lived nearby on Addison Street near my home growing up. His mom was the den mother of our cub Scout Troop. In high school we would play poker at his family house in the basement. He just wanted to have fun, never a bad word.

Good memories of our days in Troop 48. Randy was always happy, and full of stories. Glad to see that he made the best of life, even though it was too short...
